Fisherman’s Cove evokes the ambience of a rustic Asian houseboat. Inspired by local and European varieties of seafood, award-winning celebrity Chef Wai focuses on specialty seafood sourced locally and around the world. Chef Wai, who is also co-author of the award-winning Two Friends – One Cuisine coffee table book, is adept at bringing out the freshness of the produce and ingredients he uses. His culinary style and techniques featured in the book are reflected in the dishes he crafts. You may also enjoy your meticulously prepared meal at the mezzanine and dine at the booths that resemble a houseboat’s bamboo shed and watch the world go by.


A pioneer of Pangkor Laut Resort’s signature restaurant, Fisherman’s Cove, which has made a name for itself locally and internationally, Chef Wai Look Chow or popularly known as Chef Wai, now heads the YTL-owned restaurants at Feast Village Starhill Gallery in Kuala Lumpur. Among the celebrities he has had the opportunity to design and craft his specialities for include Elle Macpherson, Anna Friel, Keira Knightly, Ralph Schumacher, George Benson, Bobby Charlton, Felipe Massa, Al Jarreau, Kimi Raikkonen, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Michelle Yeoh, Russell Watson and many more.

What are most important to him in his kitchen are the freshness and variety of the ingredients made available to him and his team daily. These are two imperative elements which will result in him fulfilling his culinary philosophy of providing guests and their palates with nothing less than a perfect culinary experience.


His love for his craft and keen sense of exploration have taken him to Austria to partake in the GourmetReise Festival, the most prominent food festival in the country. It was organised by the prestigious Austrian travel and gourmet magazine GourmetReise. 15 celebrated chefs from all over the world had come together to cook at a total of 11 special dinners with their local hosts in various restaurants and locations, cooking for up to 600 guests at one dinner. The festival was created to present regional products with an international flair.

Chef Wai’s global culinary journey

Another international accolade Chef Wai had the honour of receiving was for a coffee table book collaboration with celebrity and Michelin-starred Austrian Chef Johann Lafer with whom he shares a great culinary and personal friendship with. Zwei Freunde – Eine Küche (Two Friends – One Cuisine) was awarded the Special Award of the Jury (Germany and Malaysia) and Best Cookbook of the Year (Germany). Published in Germany by Johann Lafer’s Stromburg and photographed by Michael Wissing, the stunning bilingual (German and English) coffee table book showcases the passion for food and life of two celebrated chefs in Malaysia and Germany. The book features Asian specialities infused with Austrian-German influences conjured by Chef Wai and distinct Asian touches in Chef Lafer’s creations, discovered whilst on their culinary adventures to Germany and Malaysia. It also includes personal recipes by both chefs and a short film. Closer to home, Chef Wai was awarded the King of Kitchen – 2011-2013 title by Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards (HAPA).
